Fun and Creative Ways to Document Your Pregnancy

Hey mamas! Pregnancy is such a special time – a time of transformation, anticipation, and a whole lot of love. And wouldn’t it be amazing to capture those beautiful moments and look back on them with a smile (and maybe a little bit of nostalgia) years from now?

Documenting your pregnancy is more than just taking cute bump photos (although, let’s be real, those are always a must!). But It’s about creating a lasting record of a unique chapter in your life, one filled with incredible emotions, personal growth, and the anticipation of meeting your little one.

I know some people may not agree, Some may not support you on this journey but…

Here’s Why Documenting Your Pregnancy Matters

  • Preserving Memories: Pregnancy is a fleeting stage, and documenting it helps preserve those precious moments. You can share these memories with your child when they’re older.
  • Connecting With Your Baby: Writing, journaling, or creating keepsakes allows you to connect with your baby on a deeper level.
  • Capturing Transformation: Documenting the physical and emotional changes you go through during pregnancy can be empowering and insightful.
  • A Gift for the Future: A documented pregnancy journey becomes a beautiful gift for you and your child, a window into the magic of your bond.

Here’s Fun Ways to Document Your Pregnancy Journey:

1. The Weekly Bump Photo: This is a classic for a reason! Every week, snap a photo of your growing belly from the same angle. You’ll be amazed at how much your body changes! I still love looking back at those photos with my three little ones. It’s funny how tiny their bumps were at the start compared to the massive ones they had at the end!

2. The Pregnancy Journal: This is a great way to capture your thoughts, feelings, and experiences throughout your pregnancy. Write about what you’re feeling, any cravings you have (the ice cream cravings were real for me!), and any fears or anxieties you might be having. It’s a wonderful way to connect with your future baby and reflect on your journey later on.

I used this pregnancy journal for all three of my pregnancies. I loved looking back at each book while I was pregnant to compare pregnancies. It’s so easy to forget the little details and keeping a journal allows you never to forget the little moments that so easily slip your mind.

3. The “Baby Watch” Board: This is a fun way to track your pregnancy progress with your family and friends. Create a board where you can pin photos, ultrasound images, and even funny pregnancy memes. You can also use it to track your weight gain, baby’s movements, and any cravings you might have.

4. The “Belly Cast”: This is a fun and unique way to preserve the shape of your growing belly. You can buy a belly casting kit online or find a local artist who specializes in belly casts. It’s a beautiful and tactile way to remember your pregnancy.

5. The “Pregnancy Bucket List”: This is a fun and exciting way to capture all the things you want to do and experience before your baby arrives. It could be anything from trying a new cuisine to taking a relaxing spa day. It’s a great way to make the most of your pregnancy and create some lasting memories.

6. The “Pregnancy Playlist” Music is a powerful tool for connecting with your emotions. Create a playlist of songs that you love and that remind you of your pregnancy journey. You can even include songs that you think your little one will love.

7. The “First Kick” Journal: Every first kick is a special moment! Keep a journal to track when you first feel your baby move. You can also note any other movements, like hiccups or rolls. It’s amazing how much your baby’s movements change as they grow.

Get Extra Creative

  • DIY Photo Booth: Create a fun and festive photo booth with props and backdrops. You can use balloons, streamers, or even create your own props.
  • Family Photos: Include your partner and other children in your pregnancy photos. It’s a great way to capture the excitement and anticipation as you grow your family.
  • Nature Inspired: Take photos of your bump in scenic locations like forests, parks, or beaches. Embrace the beauty of nature and create stunning images that capture the essence of your pregnancy.

You Can Also Share Your Journey

  • Create a Pregnancy Blog: Share your thoughts, experiences, and advice with other moms-to-be.
  • Social Media: Use social media to share your pregnancy journey. Use relevant hashtags and connect with other expectant moms.
  • Pregnancy Scrapbook: Create a beautiful scrapbook filled with ultrasound photos, mementos, and journal entries. You can also add captions and write down the date of each milestone.

What to Wear?

  • Comfort is Key: Choose comfortable and stylish clothing that you can wear throughout your pregnancy.
  • Embrace Your Curves: Feel confident and beautiful in your changing body.

Mom Tip: Prepare if you plan on nursing your baby (Breastfeeding-Friendly Tops Recommendation for Everyday Wear)

Speaking of capturing those special moments, I always felt great in my comfortable and stylish maternity clothes, and I’m so glad I chose outfits that were breastfeeding-friendly. I love these tops from All Things Mama Designs. They’re so comfortable and flattering, and they make breastfeeding so easy! It really serves its good purpose that allows you to discreetly feed your baby without having to pull your entire shirt up.

Quick and Easy Breakfast Recipes for Picky Toddlers

Toddlers are notorious for being picky eaters, and when you’re facing a morning rush with a little one who’s less than enthusiastic about anything remotely resembling “food,” it can feel like a battle you’re destined to lose.

But you are not alone! I’ve been there… I am still there with my 4.5-year-old. It seems like an impossible mission to give my picky eaters a quick, easy, and healthy meal.

But let me tell you, over the last few years, I’ve discovered and learned mom hacks that helped my motherhood journey a lot better.

The Struggle of a Mom

To be honest, my little ones have put me through the paces when it comes to breakfast! They would refuse anything green, anything remotely resembling a vegetable, and anything that wasn’t shaped like a dinosaur. My mornings were a constant dance of negotiation, bribery (okay, sometimes just a spoonful of chocolate chips!), and overwhelming frustration.

But then, I had a breakthrough! It wasn’t about forcing them to eat something they didn’t like. It was about making easy and healthy foods fun and engaging. I started presenting meals in creative ways, using fun cookie cutters, adding colorful fruits (blueberries and strawberries), and getting them involved in the kitchen.

The Importance of Breakfast for Toddlers

  • Brain Power: Breakfast provides those essential nutrients to fuel their brains, helping them focus and learn throughout the morning.
  • Energy Boost: After a long night’s sleep, their little bodies need a good source of energy to get them going.
  • Better Behavior: Studies show that kids who eat breakfast tend to have better behavior and concentration throughout the day.
  • Healthy Habits: Establishing good breakfast habits early on sets them up for a lifetime of good nutrition.

Tips for Feeding Picky Eaters

Make it Fun, Make it Easy, Make it Healthy!

Let’s be honest, those picky eaters can drive you bonkers! Here are some tips I’ve learned along the way:

  • Embrace the “Finger Food” Era: Toddlers love being able to feed themselves. Make sure your meals are easy to grab, pick up, and munch on. I’ve found that cutting everything into bite-sized pieces makes a huge difference!
  • Get Creative with Presentation: Presentation matters! Turn scrambled eggs into cute animal shapes with cookie cutters. Make pancakes into smiley faces with fruit slices.
  • Include Protein: Protein is essential for growing toddlers. Make sure to incorporate protein sources like eggs, yogurt, cheese, and nuts (if your child has no allergies).
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment: Keep trying new things! Just because your toddler rejected something once doesn’t mean they won’t like it the next time. Keep trying new fruits, veggies, and different combinations.
  • Involve Your Toddler in the Kitchen: Give your little one simple tasks like stirring, pouring, or washing fruits. It’s a great way to encourage their independence and make them feel like they’re part of the process.
  • Smoothies: My sons LOVE smoothies! I fill them with spinach, blueberries, spinach, cherries, kale, everything! They love it so much.

Superfoods for Toddler Breakfasts

Now, let’s talk about the power of superfoods. These amazing ingredients are packed with nutrients your toddler needs for growth and development.

  • Eggs: A great source of protein, choline, and essential vitamins. You can scramble them, poach them, or even make omelets.
  • Yogurt: A good source of calcium, protein, and probiotics. Choose plain yogurt and add your own fruit for extra flavor.
  • Berries: Packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber. Add them to yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothies.
  • Avocados: A creamy source of healthy fats, fiber, and potassium. Slice them on toast, add them to smoothies, or make avocado toast.
  • Sweet Potatoes: Rich in Vitamin A, essential for healthy vision and growth. Bake them with a little cinnamon and nutmeg, or add them to smoothies.
  • Whole Grain Cereal: Choose a cereal that’s high in fiber and low in sugar. You can also add fruit, nuts, and seeds for extra nutrients.
  • Oats: A great source of fiber and protein. Make oatmeal with water or milk, and add your favorite toppings like berries, nuts, and seeds.
  • Cottage Cheese: A great source of protein and calcium. Add it to smoothies or use it as a dip for fruits and vegetables.

Time-Saving Tips for Busy Mornings:

Moms are busy! We need to be able to whip up a healthy breakfast fast. Here are some tips that help me save time in the mornings:

  • Prepare Ahead of Time: If you have time, prepare some breakfast items on the weekend. You can cook a batch of pancakes or waffles, slice fruits and veggies, or prepare overnight oats in advance.

  • Keep Things Simple: Don’t overthink it! A simple bowl of cereal with milk and fruit is a quick and healthy breakfast option.
  • Embrace the “Muffin Tin” Method: Muffin tins are a lifesaver! You can make mini omelets, frittatas, or even breakfast muffins in advance and freeze them for quick, easy meals.

Bonus Mom Advice:

Mama, Remember to take care of yourself too…

We moms are amazing, resilient creatures, but sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. We get caught up in the endless cycle of caring for everyone else, and we put our own needs on the back burner.

But Mama, listen up: you can’t pour from an empty cup! It’s essential to remember that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s a necessity. It’s about giving yourself the love, attention, and nourishment you need to be the best mom you can be.

I know how crazy busy life gets. But one of the simplest, yet most important, ways to take care of yourself is to stay hydrated. That’s why  I have this bamboo lid affirmation tumbler. It’s not just a cute water bottle; it’s a daily inspiration that always keeps my day positive.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Healthy Breastfeeding Snacks for Moms + Lactation Cookie Recipe

From pregnancy to being a mother is a journey filled with joys and challenges, especially when you start breastfeeding your baby and your main concern is to ensure you are producing sufficient milk supply for your little one.

While breastfeeding is like a magical process, it’s also a demanding job that requires extra care for the mother because it consumes a significant amount of nutrients, time, and energy.

The Process of Breastfeeding

Once the baby is born, the initial milk, known as ‘colostrum’, is a concentrated form of antibodies that help to protect your newborn from infection and provide essential nutrients that are passed down to the baby through breast milk. To produce this magical liquid requires a lot of vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids… and if the mother is lacking nutrients, it can impact the mother’s health and potentially affect the baby’s growth and development.

That’s why a mother’s diet plays a crucial role in ensuring the baby receives the best possible nourishment.

Why Breastfeeding Moms Need a Special Diet

Breastfeeding is amazing, but it takes a lot out of you. Your body needs extra nutrients to produce milk, support your energy levels, and help you recover after delivery.

I remember my early nursing days, it felt like I was constantly hungry – my little one was always demanding to eat, and my own stomach was growling in response! Between those late-night feedings and the never-ending cycle of diaper changes, I was on a mission to find healthy, delicious snacks that would give me the energy I needed without making me feel sluggish or bloated.

Here’s why those breastfeeding snacks are so important:

  • Energy Boost: Breastfeeding burns a ton of calories, and you need those extra snacks to keep you going.
  • Milk Production: Eating nutritious foods helps to boost your milk supply.
  • Nutrient Richness: Breast milk is packed with nutrients, so it’s essential to replenish your own stores.

Healthy Breastfeeding Diet Tips

Here are some things I’ve learned about eating right during those breastfeeding days:

  • Focus on Whole Foods: Prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. These are the building blocks for a healthy diet and a strong, healthy mama.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day – it’s vital for milk production!
  • Listen to Your Body: Every woman is different. Pay attention to what makes you feel good and what gives you energy.
  • Don’t Skip Meals: Eating regular meals will help you avoid those sugar crashes and will keep your energy boosted.
  • Enjoy a good healthy snack: This is essential for keeping your milk supply flowing and will support the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that you need.

Healthy Snack Ideas for Breastfeeding Moms

Here’s a list of some of my favorite go-to snacks that helped me get through those early days of breastfeeding:

1. Fruit and Nuts:

  • Apples with Almond Butter: A classic combination for a reason! It’s packed with fiber, protein, and healthy fats.
  • Berries and Cottage Cheese: A refreshing and protein-rich snack.
  • Banana with Peanut Butter: Another satisfying and easy snack to grab.

2. Yogurt Parfaits:

  • Layer yogurt with granola, chopped fruit, and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
  • Choose Greek yogurt for extra protein!

3. Smoothies:

  • Blend together frozen fruit, yogurt, spinach, and a handful of nuts. This is a super easy way to pack in lots of nutrients.

4. Hard-Boiled Eggs:

  • A great source of protein and choline. They’re easy to pack and eat on the go.

5. Hummus and Veggie Sticks:

  • Dip carrots, celery, cucumbers, or bell pepper sticks into hummus. It’s a satisfying and healthy snack.

6. Trail Mix:

  • A quick and easy snack that you can customize with your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

7. Whole Grain Toast with Avocado and Egg:

  • A hearty and delicious snack that will keep you feeling full.

8. Chicken Salad Sandwich on Whole Grain Bread:

  • A protein-rich and filling snack.

Foods to Include in Your Breastfeeding Diet

  • Iron-rich foods: Iron is essential for making red blood cells, which carry oxygen to your baby. Good sources include red meat, fish, beans, spinach, and fortified cereals.
  • Calcium-Rich Foods: Calcium is crucial for bone health, both for you and your baby. Good sources include dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese), leafy green vegetables (kale, spinach), and fortified foods.
  • Vitamin D: Vitamin D helps with calcium absorption and bone health. Good sources include fatty fish, eggs, and fortified milk.
  • Healthy Fats: Healthy fats are important for brain development and energy production. Good sources include avocados, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish.
  • Fiber: Fiber helps to keep you regular and prevent constipation, a common issue for breastfeeding moms. Good sources include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.
  • Protein: Protein is essential for rebuilding muscle tissue and supporting milk production. Good sources include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and dairy products.

Foods to Limit

  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol as best as you can while breastfeeding. It can be passed to be, however, it is said that one “glass” is acceptable. Please consult with a lactation consultant or your doctor.
  • Caffeine: Caffeine can be passed into your breast milk, so it’s best to limit your intake. It may keep the baby up, and feel anxious if consuming too much caffeine.
  • Processed Foods: Choose whole, unprocessed foods whenever possible. These are more nutritious and less likely to trigger allergies in your baby.
  • Sugary Drinks: Limit your intake of sugary drinks, like soda and juice, as they can contribute to weight gain and can affect your energy levels.

Lactation Cookie Recipe to Boost Your Milk Supply

My milk supply was always great with all three of the boys (other than when I was 4 months pregnant my milk dried twice), however, my sister had a hard time with her firstborn and tried everything to boost her milk supply. Fenugreek tea, oatmeal galore, and even that weird-smelling lactation tea that tasted like dirt (don’t judge, we all do what we gotta do!). But you know what really helped? Lactation cookies.

The Power of Lactation Cookies

Lactation cookies are packed with ingredients known to support milk production. They’re a delicious and easy way to get those extra nutrients you need when breastfeeding.

Why Lactation Cookies Work:

  • Galactagogues: Many ingredients in lactation cookies, like oats, flaxseed, and brewer yeast, are considered galactagogues. These are foods that help to increase the milk supply.
  • Nutrients: Lactation cookies are typically rich in protein, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Energy Booster: They’re a quick and easy snack to grab when you’re on the go, especially those late-night breastfeeding sessions.

My First Experience with Lactation Cookies

When I first started making lactation cookies for my sister, I was a little skeptical. I mean, could a cookie really help increase the milk supply? But I figured it couldn’t hurt to try!

I found a simple recipe online and gathered my ingredients.

And guess what? They actually worked! She noticed a difference in her milk supply after just a few days. Plus, they were absolutely delicious (I tried some – didn’t hurt for me either I was nursing too!)

A Simple and Delicious Lactation Cookie Recipe

Here’s a simple and delicious lactation cookie recipe you can try at home:

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 cup rolled oats
    • 1 cup whole wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup brewer yeast
    • 1 teaspoon ground flaxseed
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup butter, softened
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • Instructions:
    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, brewer yeast, flaxseed, baking soda, and salt.
    3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and milk until well combined.
    4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
    5. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheet.
    6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Customize Your Lactation Cookies:

  • You can add other ingredients to your lactation cookies, like nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or even spices like cinnamon or nutmeg. You can try Gluten-Free by Swapping whole wheat flour with a gluten-free flour blend. If you want a Vegan-Friendly cookie just replace the egg with a flaxseed egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water)
  • Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze them for longer storage.
  • Share the Love: Bake a batch of lactation cookies to share with friends who are breastfeeding. It’s a thoughtful gift that shows you care.

Remember: Lactation cookies are a delicious and easy way to boost your milk supply. They’re a great addition to your breastfeeding journey but don’t forget to consult with your doctor if you have any concerns about your milk production.

Bonus Tip (Mom advice)

I have this soft, comfortable, and breathable acid-wash tee pictured below. My nursing-friendly clothes have helped me during my breastfeeding journey… and it helps a lot because they allow for quick and easy access.

Easy Party Recipes: Christmas Treats For Kids

Hey mamas! Hosting a holiday party with kids? And you’re getting excited – you want to have festive snacks that are easy to make and even easier to clean up! No one wants to be stuck in the kitchen while the party is in full swing, and trust me, keeping those little ones entertained is a full-time job!

I remember when I hosted my first Christmas party and I was so thrilled to make our treats from scratch – homemade gingerbread cookies, snowflake pretzels, and even a mountain of sugar-coated reindeer. But let’s just say it ended in an overloaded frenzy, a kitchen covered in flour, and me feeling completely overwhelmed! The ending? I’m one tired mama with a whole messy kitchen.

Why It’s So Easy to Get Stressed Out During Christmas Preparation?

  • High Expectations: We all want to create those picture-perfect Christmas treats, but sometimes the pressure to achieve perfection can lead to stress.
  • Time Crunch: The holidays are busy, and it can be hard to find the time for baking.
  • Little Helpers: Kids can be a wonderful addition to the preparation process, but they also bring a unique set of challenges. Sprinkle fights, sticky fingers, and accidental icing spills are all part of the fun!

Over the years, I’ve learned that Christmas baking doesn’t have to be a stressful ordeal because you can actually prepare everything without losing your holiday cheer.

Stress-Free Christmas Preparation Tips:

1. Plan Ahead:

  • Menu: Decide on the treats you want to make and create a shopping list in advance.
  • Schedule: Block out specific time slots for baking and preparation, even if it’s just for an hour or two at a time.
  • Pre-Prep: Do any prep work you can ahead of time. For example, check ingredients, chop veggies, or prepare the icing.

2. Embrace the “Easy” Option:

  • Pre-Made Dough: Don’t be afraid to use pre-made cookie dough or pie crusts. It saves time and energy!
  • Kits: Gingerbread house kits are a lifesaver! They come with pre-baked pieces, so all you have to do is decorate.
  • Simple Recipes: Choose recipes with minimal ingredients and easy steps. You can always get creative with decorations!

3. Make It a Family Affair:

  • Involve the Kids: Let your little ones help with measuring, mixing, and decorating. This makes it more fun for everyone!
  • Divide and Conquer: Assign different tasks to each family member. This helps to streamline the baking process.
  • Focus on Fun: Remember, it’s not about perfection. It’s about spending quality time together and creating those happy holiday memories.

4. Minimize the Mess:

  • Prep Your Workspace: Lay down newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your countertops.
  • Use Silicone Mats: Silicone baking mats make cleanup a breeze. They’re also great for preventing cookies from sticking to the pan.
  • Clean as You Go: Wash dishes and tools as you use them, so you don’t end up with a mountain of dirty dishes at the end.

5. Don’t Forget to Have Fun!

  • Music: Put on some Christmas tunes to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
  • Rewards: Have a special treat or activity planned for after you’re done baking. This will make it feel like a celebration, not a chore.
  • Accept Imperfections: Remember, it’s okay if things aren’t perfect. Focus on the joy of making memories with your family.

The Importance of Kid-Friendly Food

When it comes to Christmas parties, remember this: happy kids equal happy parents. Make sure you’re snacks or treats are:

  • Easy to Eat: Finger foods are key! Avoid anything messy or difficult for little hands to manage.
  • Appealing to Kids: Think bright colors, fun shapes, and familiar flavors.
  • Safe and Healthy: Choose options that are nut-free, gluten-free, or allergy-friendly as needed.

How to Confidently Breastfeed in Public without a Nursing Cover

Hey mamas! Let’s talk about something that’s often a hot topic (pun intended!): breastfeeding in public. I remember the first time I nursed my oldest in a public place. My heart was pounding, my palms were sweating, and I felt like the whole world was staring at me. Spoiler alert: they weren’t. But at the moment, it felt like I was under the spotlight!

Fast forward to today, and breastfeeding in public has become second nature. It’s as routine as grabbing that extra cup of coffee (which, by the way, I ‘desperately’ need to keep up with my three little ones).

So, how do you go from feeling like a bundle of nerves to confidently nursing your baby wherever and whenever they need you? It’s a journey, but with the right mindset, a little preparation, and some helpful tips, you can get there too.

The Confidence Game-Changer: Nursing-Friendly Clothing

Let’s start with something that might not seem obvious at first but is absolutely a game-changer: Nursing-friendly clothing. When I was a first-time mom, I thought I could just “make do” with my regular clothes. Oh, how wrong I was!

Trying to wrestle with a tight T-shirt or an ill-fitting blouse while holding a wiggly, hungry baby was nothing short of stressful.

Investing in breastfeeding-friendly clothing completely transformed my experience. Here’s why it makes such a big difference:

1. Convenience at Its Best

Breastfeeding-friendly tops are designed with functionality in mind. Whether they have zippers, buttons, or hidden panels, they allow for quick and easy access. No more fumbling or awkwardly tugging at your clothes while your baby gets fussier by the second. These tops save precious time, and when you’re a mom, every second counts.

That’s why I love this mama brand, which has breastfeeding-friendly tops that are both stylish and practical. They’re made from super soft, breathable fabric and have discreet, easy-access openings for breastfeeding. Plus, they look amazing with jeans or leggings!

2. Discretion Without Hiding Away

One of the biggest benefits of nursing clothes is how discreet they are. Unlike traditional nursing covers, which can sometimes draw more attention or make you feel like you’re “hiding,” nursing-friendly tops blend seamlessly into your outfit.

Most people won’t even notice when you’re feeding your baby because the openings are so subtle.

I love how these clothes allow me to nurse confidently without feeling like I have to retreat to a private room or cover myself entirely. Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful act, and nursing tops help normalize it by making it feel like just another part of your day.

3. Comfort Matters

Breastfeeding already comes with its challenges—uncomfortable clothing shouldn’t be one of them. Nursing tops are often made from soft, breathable fabrics that feel good against your skin (and your baby’s too!). They’re stretchy enough to accommodate your postpartum body, and some even have extra room for those times when you’re engorged.

Feeling comfortable in your clothes has a huge impact on your confidence. When you’re not constantly adjusting your outfit or worrying about exposing too much, you can focus entirely on your baby and the precious bonding time you’re sharing.

4. Style That Fits Your Life

Let’s be honest—just because we’re moms doesn’t mean we want to give up on looking good. Nursing-friendly clothing has come a long way in recent years, with brands offering stylish options that look just like regular outfits. Whether you’re heading to a playdate, running errands, or enjoying a family dinner, you can feel put-together and chic without sacrificing functionality.

I’ve found that a few staple pieces—like a flattering nursing dress or a comfy zip-up top—can go a long way in making me feel confident and capable while breastfeeding in public. Pair them with jeans, leggings, or even a cute skirt, and you’re ready for anything!

Why You Don’t Need a Nursing Cover?

For a long time, nursing covers were seen as a “must-have” for breastfeeding moms. But let me tell you, they’re far from necessary. While some moms prefer them (and that’s okay!), they’re not the only way to nurse discreetly in public.

Nursing clothes eliminate the need for a cover by providing built-in access points that are subtle and easy to use. Here are a few reasons why I ditched the cover and never looked back:

  • No More Fidgeting: Covers can be awkward to use, especially when your baby starts grabbing at them or pulling them down. Nursing tops stay in place, so you can focus on feeding instead of constantly readjusting.
  • No Extra Gear to Pack: With nursing clothes, there’s no need to remember to pack a cover in your diaper bag. It’s one less thing to carry and worry about.
  • Comfort for Your Baby: Let’s face it—some babies hate being covered up while they eat. Nursing tops allow for skin-to-skin contact and let your baby stay cool and comfortable during feedings.
  • Boosting Confidence: Wearing nursing-friendly clothing instead of a cover can help you feel more empowered and confident. You’re not hiding—you’re embracing the natural act of feeding your child.

Mindset Tips: Owning the Moment

Breastfeeding in public isn’t just about the logistics—it’s about feeling good in your own skin and embracing the moment. Here are some mindset shifts that helped me go from nervous to confident:

1. Remember Why You’re Doing This

At the end of the day, breastfeeding is about nourishing your baby. When you focus on their needs instead of worrying about what others might think, it becomes much easier to relax and enjoy the experience.

2. Normalize the Act

Breastfeeding is a natural, beautiful thing, and the more we do it openly, the more normalized it becomes. Every time you nurse in public, you’re helping to create a world where future moms won’t have to think twice about feeding their babies.

3. Find the Support You Need

Breastfeeding can feel like an emotional rollercoaster at times, and having a support system can make all the difference. Whether it’s your partner, a close friend, or a fellow mom who gets it, having someone to lean on is invaluable.

Sometimes, all you need is a kind word or a reassuring nod to remind you that you’re doing an amazing job. But support doesn’t just come from people—it can also come from small, meaningful tools that lift your spirits during tough moments.

That’s why I am sharing with you these positive affirmation cards for breastfeeding moms, that I was gifted by my husband. They were designed to give moms like us the encouragement and confidence we need on our breastfeeding journey.

These cards are filled with uplifting messages like, “I am confident in my body’s abilities to feed my baby!” and “I am patient with myself and my baby. They’re perfect to keep by your nursing station, tuck into your diaper bag, or read during those moments when you’re feeling a little overwhelmed.

Sometimes, just reading a simple reminder that you’re not alone and that you’re doing something amazing can be the boost you need to get through a long day (or night). Pair these affirmations with support from your “tribe,” and you’ll feel even more empowered to confidently breastfeed—whether at home or in public.

Practical Tips for Public Breastfeeding

1. Practice at Home

Before venturing out, practice using your nursing tops at home to get comfortable with the process. Try different positions and learn how to latch your baby quickly and efficiently.

2. Start Small

If the idea of nursing in public feels intimidating, start in a place where you feel safe, like a friend’s house or a quiet park. Gradually build up your confidence before heading to busier locations.

3. Be Prepared

Pack a small nursing kit in your diaper bag with essentials like burp cloths, breast pads, and a water bottle for yourself. Knowing you have everything you need can help you feel more at ease.

Final Thoughts: You’ve Got This, Mama!

Breastfeeding in public might feel daunting at first, but with the right tools, mindset, and support, it can become a natural and empowering part of your routine. Nursing-friendly clothing is an absolute game-changer, giving you the confidence, comfort, and convenience you need to feed your baby wherever you go.

Remember, you’re doing an amazing thing for your child, and you have every right to feel proud and confident while doing it. So go ahead, mama—own the moment, embrace the journey, and enjoy the incredible bond you’re building with your little one.

Things to do when you find out you are pregnant

OMG, I’m Pregnant!

The words seem to echo endlessly in my head, long after my little ones turned into lively, energetic toddlers. Discovering that you’re pregnant is one of those life-changing moments that will stay with you forever.

It’s equal parts thrilling and nerve-wracking. Suddenly, you’re flooded with a mix of emotions—joy, disbelief, excitement, and even a sprinkle of fear as you realize life is about to change in the most extraordinary way.

From the moment you see those two pink lines or that tiny “pregnant” notification on a digital test, your mind starts racing. “Am I ready for this?” “What do I do next?” and “Is it normal to feel this overwhelmed?”

Whether this is your first baby or your third, the experience of learning you’re pregnant is as unique as the journey that follows.

As moms, we often dive headfirst into research mode, scouring books, blogs, and online forums to gather as much information as possible. While the knowledge is invaluable, it’s important to take a step back and savor the moment.

That initial wave of realization—I’m growing a tiny human!—is something to celebrate, no matter what emotions accompany it. You’ve officially embarked on the magical and sometimes unpredictable journey of motherhood, and trust me, it’s a ride like no other.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Journey

Pregnancy is one of those rare times in life when your body takes center stage, performing feats of nature you didn’t even know were possible.

As you process the news, it’s common to feel a little overwhelmed. After all, you’re suddenly responsible for a growing life! It’s a beautiful, humbling, and surreal feeling all at once.

In these early moments, it’s okay to feel uncertain. Maybe you’ve spent years dreaming about this moment, or perhaps it caught you entirely by surprise.

Either way, it’s your journey to embrace. There’s no right or wrong way to navigate these early days of pregnancy—what matters is taking it step by step, learning as you go, and giving yourself grace along the way.

Here are seven things to do when you find out you’re pregnant,  from the initial excitement to prepping for your little bundle of joy:

1. Embrace the “Glow” (and the Nausea): First things first, celebrate! You’re creating life, and that’s amazing! But don’t be surprised if you also experience some, shall we say, interesting side effects. Morning sickness, anyone?

In my three pregnancies, I only suffered morning sickness between weeks 7-8. Slight nausea that was manageable, however, certain smells upset my stomach, but I embraced it all, including the moments when I could only stomach crackers and ginger ale for a week or so!

2. Tell Your Partner, Family and/or Friends: One of the most exciting parts of those first few weeks is deciding who to tell and how. Will you plan a surprise announcement for your partner?

Share the news with family right away, or wait until the second trimester? Some moms-to-be love shouting it from the rooftops, while others prefer to savor the secret for a little while longer.

For me, telling my partner was a moment I’ll never forget. The look of pure joy on his face made my heart swell. Whether you choose to share the news with balloons, a heartfelt card, or a simple, quiet moment together, it’s a memory that will stick with you forever

Remember, there’s no pressure to reveal your pregnancy until you’re ready. This is your story, and you get to decide when and how to share it.

3. Doctor’s Appointment Time: This is when the real fun begins! (Okay, maybe not “fun” in the traditional sense, but definitely important!)  Schedule a prenatal checkup to discuss your health history and establish a plan for your pregnancy journey. Usually, doctors like to see you at week 8.

4. The First Ultrasound: The first glimpse of your little one on the ultrasound screen is pure magic. It’s like seeing a tiny superhero in action, kicking and moving around, already full of life.  I saved all of my ultrasound pictures of my three sons, tucked away in my memory box, a reminder of the wonder of life beginning.

5. Start Building Your Nest (and Your Wardrobe): Before diving into planning mode, take a moment to celebrate this incredible milestone.

Whether it’s snapping a photo of your positive test, journaling about your emotions, or simply sitting quietly to soak it all in, give yourself permission to fully embrace this life-changing moment.

Pregnancy is a time of transformation—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. It’s a time to dream about the future, imagine holding your baby for the first time, and begin connecting with the tiny life growing inside of you.

So go ahead, and celebrate in whatever way feels right to you. You’ve just taken the first step on an incredible journey, and it’s one worth cherishing.

6. Embrace the Changes: Your body is doing incredible things, growing a tiny human! Embrace the changes – the growing belly, the new cravings, the exhaustion. It’s all part of the journey. Remember to listen to your body and be kind to yourself.

7. Find Your Tribe: Pregnancy is a wonderful time to connect with other moms.  Join a mommy group, follow supportive blogs, or even reach out to your mom or sister for advice.  Having a support system is invaluable during this incredible time.

The Struggle is Real

As incredible as pregnancy is, it’s important to acknowledge that it can also feel overwhelming.

Between the sudden changes to your body, the long to-do list ahead, and the occasional wave of morning sickness, it’s easy to feel like you’re juggling a million emotions. And you know what? That’s completely normal.

One minute you might be beaming with excitement, imagining what your little one will look like. Next, you might be questioning if you’re truly ready for this new chapter.

It’s all part of the process. The truth is, there’s no such thing as feeling 100% prepared for motherhood, and that’s okay. You’re not alone in these feelings—millions of moms around the world have been exactly where you are now.

Here’s what to do when you’re feeling down:

1. Talk to Your Partner or a Trusted Friend:  Sharing your feelings with someone you trust can make a world of difference.  Don’t bottle things up.

2. Take Care of Yourself:  Make time for things that make you happy, whether it’s a relaxing bath, a good book, or just some time to yourself.  Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential for both you and your baby.

3. Seek Professional Help If Needed:  If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or any other mental health challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional. They can provide you with the support and guidance you need.

Realizing you’re going to be a mom will be a lot of mixed feelings and you have to embrace it all. Remember, pregnancy is a journey filled with surprises, challenges, and unmeasurable joy.

Morning Sickness Struggle: 10 Ways How to survive the First Trimester

Ah, the joys of pregnancy. From the moment that little plus sign appears on the test, a whirlwind of emotions takes over. Excitement, anticipation, and maybe, just maybe, a touch of nausea. Yep, that’s right, I’m talking about morning sickness, the unwelcome guest that shows up in the first trimester.

Facts you need to know

Morning sickness is a common experience for pregnant women, though it’s not always limited to mornings! It’s called nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) and a few reasons why you’re experiencing it is because of your pregnancy hormones, changes in blood sugar, increased smell sensitivity, changes in your digestive system, and even protective mechanism because your body thought that the little seed growing inside you is harmful. (That’s totally natural)

The Struggle

Let’s be honest, it can be a real drag. It’s not just about feeling queasy, it can be a full-blown assault on your senses. My kids are notorious for their early morning antics, and let’s just say, their “morning” starts at 7:00 am. Imagine trying to make breakfast for my hungry little ones with a stomach that feels like a rollercoaster. But fear not, fellow mamas, you’re not alone in this nausea-filled journey!

So let’s dive into my top 10 tips How to survive the first trimester:

1. Eat Small, Frequent Meals: This is your new mantra. Keep those blood sugar levels stable by snacking on bland, easy-to-digest foods throughout the day. Crackers, toast, pretzels – you get the picture.

2. Ginger, Ginger, Ginger: Ginger is a natural wonder for nausea. Keep ginger ale handy (the kind with real ginger, not just the flavor), or try adding a touch of ginger to your tea or smoothies.

3. Hydration Is Key: Staying hydrated is crucial, but sometimes the thought of drinking water just makes your stomach churn. Try sipping on ice-cold water, adding a squeeze of lemon or lime for a little zing.  I have this Affirmation tumbler that is perfect for hot tea or cold water, plus it helps me boost my mood.

4. Get Fresh Air and Sunshine: Get outside! A change of scenery can sometimes do wonders for your mood and your stomach. Plus, the vitamin D boost is a bonus.

5. Rest When You Can: Sleep when the baby sleeps, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from your partner or family. This is not the time to be a superhero; prioritize rest and relaxation.

6. Peppermint Power: The cooling sensation of peppermint can help soothe a queasy stomach. Try peppermint tea, chewing gum, or even a drop of peppermint oil on a tissue.

7. Acupressure Points: Did you know there are certain acupressure points on your wrists and ankles that can help with nausea? Ask your doctor for more information.

8. Avoid Trigger Foods: Pay attention to your body and identify any foods that make you feel worse. It might be greasy foods, strong smells, or even just the sight of a certain dish.

9. Get Some Movement: Squatting and Yoga can also help you settle your stomach and boost your mood. Plus it can prepare you for easy labor! You can read my blog about Benefits of Prenatal Yoga (at home)

10. Talk to Your Doctor: If your nausea is severe or persistent, don’t hesitate to reach out to your doctor. They can offer advice and help you manage the symptoms.

The Silver Lining of Morning Sickness

Believe it or not, some studies show that experiencing morning sickness may be linked to a lower risk of miscarriage. So while it feels awful in the moment, it can be a sign that your pregnancy hormones are working overtime to protect that tiny life.

Common Myths About Morning Sickness

  • Myth: Morning sickness only happens in the morning.
Reality: It can strike at any time, day or night.
  • Myth: Morning sickness means you’re having a girl.
Reality: There’s no scientific proof that nausea is linked to your baby’s gender.

Mom-to-Mom Hacks

Here are a few clever hacks I’ve picked up from fellow mamas:

  • Keep a stash of crackers by your bed for late-night or early-morning munchies.
  • Try popsicles or frozen fruit for hydration and a soothing treat.
  • Use peppermint lotion on your wrists or temples for quick relief.

Morning sickness is one of the less glamorous parts of pregnancy, but it’s also a reminder of the amazing work your body is doing. Hang in there, mama. Before you know it, this phase will be a distant memory, and you’ll be holding that sweet little bundle in your arms.

Remember, mamas, this too shall pass! The first trimester can be a tough one, but it’s all part of the incredible journey to motherhood.

Bonus Tip: To prepare yourself on your breastfeeding journey… I have this hooded sweatshirt that makes my nursing journey a little easier and more enjoyable. It comes in different colors too, and you’ll definitely love this nursing mama brand!

Remember to be gentle on yourself mama… enjoy the process of motherhood.

Christmas Planning: Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide for Expectant Moms

The holidays are upon us, and with them comes the joy of giving.  But let’s be real, finding the perfect gift for an expectant mom can be tricky.  You know, the ones that make them go “aww” and “that’s so thoughtful” – not the ones that leave them scratching their head.

We’re talking about the gift guide for expectant moms, something practical, something special, and something that speaks to the unique journey she’s on. Because, let’s face it, carrying a tiny human around is a full-time job (and trust me, it’s harder than it looks!).

It’s not about over-the-top gifts or splurging on something extravagant—it’s about finding something meaningful, thoughtful, and tailored to the unique journey she’s on.

Whether she’s in the glow of her second trimester or navigating the challenges of those first few months, the right gift can make her feel loved, appreciated, and supported. After all, carrying a tiny human is no small feat, and the holiday season is the perfect time to honor that.

When you’re choosing a gift for a mom-to-be, it’s important to consider where she is in her pregnancy journey and what would truly make her feel special. Sentimental gifts like keepsake ornaments or affirmation stickers go beyond being just “things”—they serve as tangible reminders of her strength, her excitement, and the incredible transformation she’s experiencing.

A gift that acknowledges her emotions and celebrates her milestones can make all the difference, turning the present into a cherished memory.

Another thing to keep in mind when planning gifts is how they’ll help her feel prepared and excited about the journey ahead. For many moms, pregnancy is a time of deep reflection and anticipation. She’s not just thinking about herself; she’s preparing for the arrival of her little one.

This is why gifts that speak to both her present experience and her future role as a mom are so impactful. Whether it’s a keepsake she can look back on or something practical that helps her through the day, it’s all about making her feel supported in the moment and in the months to come.

So, as you plan your gifts this year, take a moment to think about the little details that will make her smile. Gifts that celebrate her as a mom-to-be, acknowledge her journey, and provide comfort or joy during this season of her life are the ones that will truly stand out.

Remember, it’s not just about what you give—it’s about how your gift makes her feel. And isn’t that what the holiday spirit is all about?

Here’s my take on gifts that will be appreciated:

1. A Comfy Pregnancy Pillow

I remember being so uncomfortable in the third trimester.  I’d be in the living room, sprawled out like a starfish on the couch with pillows all around me, just trying to get a decent night’s sleep.  A good pregnancy pillow is a lifesaver! It provides support and comfort, whether she’s reading a book or trying to get a good night’s sleep.

2. A Stylish Nursing Top

I’m all about finding pieces that are both functional and fashionable.  And, to be honest, nursing and pumping can be a bit of a wardrobe challenge!  I recently discovered this amazing brand, that makes super cute breastfeeding-friendly tops that are perfect for everyday wear.  They have a wide variety of styles, from dressesT-shirtslong sleeves, and hoodies so you can find something that fits her personal style.

I love that they’re made from soft, breathable fabric that’s gentle on both mom and baby. Plus, they have hidden zippers for easy access, so she can nurse in comfort without feeling like she’s stuck in a giant, shapeless t-shirt.

3. A Stylish Diaper Bag

She’ll be carrying this everywhere she goes!  Pick a diaper bag that’s both practical and stylish.  I’m a huge fan of backpacks, especially those with multiple compartments and pockets.  Plus this one is a waterproof baby bag!

4. Christmas Ornament

Nothing tugs at the heartstrings like a meaningful keepsake, and expectant moms will treasure gifts that celebrate the bond between mother and child.

This beautiful ornament is the perfect holiday gift for moms-to-be. It symbolizes the unique and unbreakable connection between a mother and her child, making it a touching keepsake for their first Christmas as an expectant mom. Hang it on the tree this year, and it will become a cherished memory for years to come.

5. A Personalized Baby Journal

A sweet way to document her journey and cherish all those precious moments.  This is a gift that will be treasured for years to come.

6. A Relaxing Spa Day

Pregnancy can be physically and emotionally demanding.  Giving her a gift certificate for a spa day is a fantastic way to help her relax and unwind.  Think massages, facials, and maybe even a prenatal yoga class.  It’s a perfect way to pamper her and help her escape the reality of swollen ankles and endless peeing.

7. An Affirmation Tumbler

Help them start every day with a positive mindset while being hydrated. Pick out those glass tumblers that are ideal for both hot and cold drinks, making them versatile for all seasons. They will enjoy a refreshing cold drink in the summer or a hot drink in the winter.

8. A  Gift Certificate to a Baby Store

Let her choose what she needs for her little one.  This way, you know it’s something she’ll actually use and appreciate.

9. A Thoughtful Book About Parenthood

There are so many amazing books out there for expectant parents,  It’s a great way to help her prepare for the next chapter of her life.

10. A  Homemade Gift

Sometimes the most heartfelt gifts are the ones we make ourselves. Maybe bake her a batch of her favorite cookies or create a personalized photo album filled with memories from her pregnancy journey.

Remember, the most important thing is to choose a gift that comes from the heart. Show her you care, and she’ll cherish your thoughtfulness.

And finally, a little tip from a fellow mom:  Don’t underestimate the power of a thoughtful handwritten note.

Did I miss something?

Remember, pregnancy is a beautiful time but it can also be a little challenging. Let’s make it as wonderful as possible for our mama friends!
