What is Digital Marketing?
Digital marketing is the use of online channels and tools to promote and sell products or services. Unlike traditional marketing methods, digital marketing leverages the internet and digital platforms to reach a global audience. It encompasses a variety of strategies, including content marketing, social media marketing, email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and more.
Key Components of Digital Marketing
- Content Marketing: Creating valuable content to attract and engage your target audience.
- Social Media Marketing: Promoting your brand and content on social media platforms to increase awareness and drive traffic.
- Email Marketing: Sending targeted emails to prospects and customers to nurture relationships and drive sales.
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Optimizing your content and website to rank higher in search engine results.
- Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC): Running ads on platforms like Google Ads or social media to drive traffic to your site.
- Affiliate Marketing: Promoting other people’s products and earning a commission for every sale made through your referral.
Why Digital Marketing?
Digital marketing offers several advantages over traditional marketing:
- Cost-Effective: Digital marketing is often more affordable than traditional marketing methods.
- Measurable: You can track and analyze your results in real-time, allowing for data-driven decisions.
- Targeted: Reach your ideal audience with precision through targeting options.
- Scalable: Easily scale your efforts as your business grows.
Getting Started with Digital Marketing
Step 1: Define Your Goals
Before diving into digital marketing, it’s crucial to define your goals. What do you want to achieve? Common goals include increasing brand awareness, driving website traffic, generating leads, and boosting sales. Having clear goals will guide your strategy and help you measure success.
Step 2: Identify Your Target Audience & Niche
What type of niche do you want to focus on? It could be motherhood, fitness, cooking, wealth, you can be more specific and choose breastfeeding mothers, stay at home moms, twin moms, you can choose men over 50, women over 60 for fitness, anything!!
Understanding your target audience is essential for effective digital marketing. Create detailed buyer personas to represent your ideal customers. Consider factors like age, gender, location, interests, and pain points. This information will help you tailor your content and campaigns to resonate with your audience.
Step 3: Choose Your Digital Marketing Channels
There are several digital marketing channels to choose from. The best ones for you will depend on your goals and target audience.
Common channels include:
- Website: Your online hub where visitors can learn about your brand and make purchases. You can choose to have a WordPress site, Shopify Store or use Beacons, Stan Store or Leap which is a smaller store front that is beginner friendly, and easily set up for you in under an hour or less.
- Blog: A platform to share valuable content and attract organic traffic through SEO which is what you are reading now!
- Social Media: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to engage with your audience. Pinterest isn’t entirely “social media” it is a search engine like Google but it is a GREAT way to gain traffic and it’s completely underrated.
- Email: A direct way to communicate with prospects and customers. You can gather emails from providing freebies or low ticketed items. Low ticket items can be under $20.
- Paid Ads: Platforms like Google Ads and Facebook Ads to drive targeted traffic to your site. I wouldn’t push for ads until you have established yourself because it can be wasted money if you are unsure of how to run ads.
Step 4: Develop Your Content Strategy
Content is at the heart of digital marketing. Develop a content strategy that aligns with your goals and audience. Consider the types of content you’ll create (e.g., blog posts, videos, infographics), the topics you’ll cover, and how often you’ll publish.
There is a lot to this part. Content can take up a lot of your time, especially if you aren’t sure of what to write, how to put together a post, reel or even gather photos and videos to use.
ChatGPT is a great tool to help you strategize your content. Following other people in your niche that have a large following, and see what content of theirs has gone viral. You can replicate these in your own way (no copying!).
There are a variety of content banks you can use, as well as free photos and videos from Canva and other websites.
Step 5: Optimize for SEO
SEO is critical for driving organic traffic to your website. Focus on both on-page and off-page SEO:
- On-Page SEO: Optimize your website content, meta tags, headers, and URLs with relevant keywords.
- Off-Page SEO: Build high-quality backlinks from reputable websites to improve your site’s authority.
SEO Tip: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ahrefs to find relevant keywords for your niche.
Step 6: Leverage Social Media
Social media is a free, powerful tool for building relationships and driving traffic. Choose the platforms where your audience is most active and create a consistent posting schedule. Engage with your followers, respond to comments, and participate in relevant conversations.
Don’t feel like you have to use every platform. Focus on one or two that you feel most comfortable with and reuse content!

If you are an introvert like me and do not want to show your face, you can have a faceless account. Faceless social media accounts have been thriving in 2024, and they usually use content banks to help with video or photo content while others have their own content but don’t show their face.
What is a Faceless Account?
A faceless account is an online presence where you do not use your personal images or videos. Instead, you focus on content that can be created and shared without revealing your identity. This approach is ideal for those who value privacy or feel more comfortable behind the scenes.
How to Use a Faceless Account
- Content Creation: Focus on creating high-quality content that doesn’t require showing your face. This can include:
- Infographics: Use tools like Canva to create informative and visually appealing infographics.
- Text-Based Posts: Share tips, stories, and insights using text posts on platforms like Twitter or Instagram.
- Screen Recordings: Create tutorial videos using screen recordings to demonstrate software, processes, or tips.
- Photography and Graphics: Use stock photos, custom graphics, and animations to convey your message.
SEO Tip: Use relevant keywords and hashtags in your social media posts to increase visibility.

SEO Tip: Regularly update your content to keep it fresh and relevant for search engines.
Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC)
I wouldn’t run ads until you are more established or are more familiar with how to run ads. But for those who aren’t total beginners and want to dabble in running ads, PPC advertising involves paying for ads to drive traffic to your website.
Here’s how to get started:

- Create Compelling Ads: Write attention-grabbing ad copy and use high-quality images or videos. Include a clear CTA to encourage clicks.
- Monitor and Optimize: Track your ad performance and make adjustments as needed to improve your ROI. Focus on metrics like click-through rate (CTR), conversion rate, and cost per click (CPC).
Measuring and Analyzing Your Results
To ensure your digital marketing efforts are effective, it’s crucial to measure and analyze your results. Here’s how:
- Set Up Analytics: Use tools like Google Analytics to track your website traffic, user behavior, and conversion rates.
- Monitor Key Metrics: Focus on metrics like traffic, engagement, leads, and sales. Identify which strategies are working and which need improvement.
- Adjust Your Strategy: Based on your analysis, make data-driven decisions to optimize your campaigns.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
CRO involves optimizing your website and marketing campaigns to increase the percentage of visitors who take desired actions. Here’s how to get started:
